Happy(?) Gold Morning! Here's the 'thing' I mentioned I was working on a few weeks back: a map of all canon endbringer attacks plus 25 ones I made up to fill gaps in the timeline. I love rolling dice to decide the fates of hundreds of millions of fictionalized people!
Making this map really showed the gaps in the distribution of attacks. Europe is massively overrepresented, as is the US East Coast, but South and Central America, and especially Africa, are pretty massively underrepresented. I'm sure there's probably a kinda-sorta explanation you can spin about the endbringers only attacking places Eidolon is likely to defend, or the Simurgh attacking places that are more geopolitically influential, but that rings hollow to me.
In order to do this I had to make a massive spreadsheet of all the known canon attacks, then figure out how many attacks realistically fit in the gaps (mostly in the 2004-2009 years), then come up with 'realistic' casualty estimates (which are probably way too high but I wanted this to be bleak, I guess). probably 10-15 hours just spreadsheeting. Anyway,I think I've rambled enough. Enjoy(?)

A new global gender divide is emerging (John Burn-Murdoch, Financial Times, Jan 26 2024)
"In the US, Gallup data shows that after decades where the sexes were each spread roughly equally across liberal and conservative world views, women aged 18 to 30 are now 30 percentage points more liberal than their male contemporaries.
That gap took just six years to open up.
Germany also now shows a 30-point gap between increasingly conservative young men and progressive female contemporaries, and in the UK the gap is 25 points.
In Poland last year, almost half of men aged 18-21 backed the hard-right Confederation party, compared to just a sixth of young women of the same age.
Outside the west, there are even more stark divisions.
In South Korea there is now a yawning chasm between young men and women, and it’s a similar situation in China.
In Africa, Tunisia shows the same pattern.
Notably, in every country this dramatic split is either exclusive to the younger generation or far more pronounced there than among men and women in their thirties and upwards.
The #MeToo movement was the key trigger, giving rise to fiercely feminist values among young women who felt empowered to speak out against long-running injustices.
That spark found especially dry tinder in South Korea, where gender inequality remains stark, and outright misogyny is common.
In the country’s 2022 presidential election, while older men and women voted in lockstep, young men swung heavily behind the right-wing People Power party, and young women backed the liberal Democratic party in almost equal and opposite numbers.
Korea’s is an extreme situation, but it serves as a warning to other countries of what can happen when young men and women part ways.
Its society is riven in two. Its marriage rate has plummeted, and birth rate has fallen precipitously, dropping to 0.78 births per woman in 2022, the lowest of any country in the world. (…)
It would be easy to say this is all a phase that will pass, but the ideology gaps are only growing, and data shows that people’s formative political experiences are hard to shake off.
All of this is exacerbated by the fact that the proliferation of smartphones and social media mean that young men and women now increasingly inhabit separate spaces and experience separate cultures.
Too often young people’s views are overlooked owing to their low rates of political participation, but this shift could leave ripples for generations to come, impacting far more than vote counts."

So, you lied to me? - Lando Norris x Tourist! Reader
Plot: Going on a travel year you end up in Monaco, the plan wasn't too fall for the man who helped you to the British Embassy and gave you a place to stay when someone stole everything from you ...
You took a gap year before university and decided to travel you'd started off the New Year on a flight from London, to Qatar to New Zealand. You travelled around New Zealand and Australia for the majority of January, before moving on to Papa New Guinea, Fiji and Samoa.
You then travelled round the South Asian countries, like Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines and Taiwan all throughout February. You then moved onto China, doing both Disney Parks while you were there and sight seeing. You did South Korea and Japan.
Coming into April, you moved onto Sri Lanka and India, and The Middle East, doing Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrian, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Afterwards, now having done 2 continents, you moved onto Africa, you spent the end of April and the majority of May travelling here, before leaving for Europe.
A nice 2 weeks island hopping around Greece, before a week travelling up the boot of Italy.
It was when you drove to Monaco in a rental car that things got difficult.
You were walking along the harbor where all the expensive yachts were docked wishing that one could be yours. You didn't have all your bags on you, the larger ones left behind in the hotel room you'd booked for the night. But you had your important stuff on you, like you passport, your drivers license and all your travel documents.
You were taking a picture on your nice Canon camera of the yachts and the street that had weird red corners rounding it that you put down to being measures to just help drivers slow down round the corners, but they were definitely an eyesore.
Every time nice cars drove by there was whistles and claps that made you look at what car it was, you could never tell what model it was but they looked nice and you guess you could say sporty.
As you were distracted taking your pictures a guy comes up to you with a small, parcel cutting knife in his hand. He slit the straps of what you thought was a really sturdy bag and the weight notifies you to the loss of the bag. You let your camera drop as you turn to see the guy now holding your bag and starting to run away with it.
"Hey! Stop" you shout before running after him.
"Aide, Aide" you shout as you continue to follow him, your minimal French not helping as people scold you for being a bustly tourist.
You aren't really looking where you going and you loose him at a busy intersection of people, you spin round looking at every possible direction he could have gone in.
"Shit!" you whisper to yourself quietly tears coming in your eyes. You spin round a little to quickly, bumping into someone who drops the bag that they were holding.
"Désolé, mon erreur" you try looking at the young gentleman you'd bumped into in a hoodie and jeans. He looks at you with a confused look, a smirk coming onto his face.
"Oh sorry, tu ne parles pas français? Maybe Italian, erm fuck scusa, parli italiano?" you ask with again the bare minimum of Italian you know.
"I speak perfectly good English" he smiles, laughing a little as your expression turns to shock.
"Oh! Oh I'm so stupid. Hello!" you smile looking at the very attractive man in front of you, you blushed a little looking up at him.
"You look panicked what's wrong?" he asks.
"I was tacking pictures of the harbor and some guy took my bag. It has everything in of mine and I don't know what to do" You say to him looking a little more panicked.
"Everything as in money ... because I can help with that" he says placing a hand on your arm.
"I don't care about the money, but he has all of my documents. My passport, my drivers license everything" you cry a little.
"Oh! Erm, I have a friend who was born here, and let me get him and he can help us file a police report. Then mmm the British Embassy is all the way in Paris and you cant get a flight so we'll have to drive there..." he starts to rant and your face turned shocked.
"We?" you ask, confused as to how this guy has just inserted himself into your life drama's.
"Oh yeah, I've gotta help you out now. You got that whole damsel in distress thing going on right now! Any way damsel, what's your name?" he jokes and you look over at him offended.
"I am not a damsel in distress! And Y/N" you retort.
"You so are, the tear stains, the wide, helpless eyes, the guppy fish face your pulling right now, the butchered French and Italian to a strange man who actually is British... Y/N" he laughs making you pout and push him a little.
"I don't even have a place to stay after 3pm today and I cant check in anywhere without ID" you say rubbing your head, looking around as if the man would randomly pop back up and hand you your bag back before saying how sorry he was.
"You can stay at my place, I have two spare bedrooms" he smiles and you look at him in shock.
"You live here, in Monaco ..." you ask.
"Yeah, I moved here a few years ago, for ...work" he offers, he phones his friend walking off for a few seconds alone before he pulls you along one of the side streets and too a quiet cafe he went to, to keep under wraps.
"Okay, Y/N this is my friend ... er Percy" he says pointing to Charles, so far you hadn't shown any signs of knowing who he is and he didn't want you to catch wind of that.
"Hello Percy, its nice to meet you" you smile and he looks at you with a vacant yet confused expression.
"Oh and whose this you are beautiful" you compliment looking at the girl behind him.
"Y/N this is my girlfriend Alex" Charles indicates to Alex behind him who smiles and pulls you in for a kind hug that you definitely needed. You could hear both of their strong accents as they introduced himself.
"Oh, I never got you name, what's your name?" you ask turning to look at Lando, who freezes for a second.
"Erm, my names Robert, but you can call me Bob" he smiles and you raise and eyebrow at him.
"Hmmm, you don't look like a Robert... or a Bob. Interesting choice" you voice your opinion making everyone awkwardly laugh.
Charles, Lando and Alex took you to the nearest police station in Monaco, Charles translated what they were saying and you answered to which he and Alex would help translate back.
Charles explained that they were escalating it because you are a tourist in need, but you picked up some words that made the sentence not sound like that at all.
You were asked if you had a place to say and Lando explained you'd be staying with him until everything was sorted out.
The Monegasque police got in contact with the Paris British Embassy for you, they explained that the police had sent over you information and if you wanted to hold off on a new passport for a few days to see if it would turn up you were more than welcome, but right now your passport was on lockdown.
And that was how you ended up spending the end of July and all of August with Lando, it was strange really. For a man who had and extremely nice collection of clothes and a very large apartment he didn't go to work often. There was one room you weren't allowed in which is where he often went, you assumed it was a man cave or gaming room where he played with his friends because you heard lots of shouting and aggressive banging.
He'd been so sweet, he took you on dates from going out to dinner, to picnics, to going swimming and lots more. It felt like more than a summer fling. Especially once he asked you to be his girlfriend, which you immediately said yes too.
But he got a lot more twitchy after he had.
Eventually, Lando or Bob as you knew him took you to Paris so you could get your passport. He explained that he travelled a lot for work and he would need to leave soon and you explained that before you bumped into him you'd been on a gap year travelling the world.
"Baby, why don't you come with me?" he asked randomly as you were both lying on the sofa, cuddling while watching a film.
"You wont even tell me what you do for work Baby! And besides I had a schedule that I'm already behind on. A week ago you said you didn't mind going our separate ways for a little bit until Christmas and then you'd come to England with me" you say playing with his curls.
"Okay, I'm going to be honest with you now... my name isn't Bob" he says shyly and you sit up at the speed of light turning to look at him.
"I knew it! So you lied to me?" you exclaim laughing.
"So, what's my boyfriends actual name?" you ask looking him dead in the eyes, he leans up on his elbows before sitting the full way up.
"Lando, I am Lando Norris" he smiles.
"Hmmmm, Lando... Lando. I could get used to that" you smile.
"You aren't mad?" he asks looking over you, brushing you hair back and tucking it behind your ear before kissing your cheek.
"I knew you weren't being completely honest when we first met... but I also knew you had your own reasons" you offer.
"I think its going to be easier if I just hand you my Instagram" he admits with a gulp as he hands you his phone. The first thing you notice is how many followers he had, there was around 10million and he had nearly 2,500 posts.
You look at the friends list, and one peeks your interest. Charles Leclerc, who looked exactly like Percy who Lando had introduced you too.
You then go back and look at his bio, that told you his actual job.
"So, I'm dating a super famous athlete?" you ask looking up at him away from the phone to see his head down in his hands. He turns to the side to sneak a look at your expression, his eyes a little glossy.
"To be specific, a Formula 1 driver" you ask again and he nods.
"You are such a muppet, my god" you laugh before pulling him into a hug.
"How aren't you upset with me?" he ask unsure.
"Well, I agreed to date you, because you are you. I doubt you change into Mr Hyde when you become a what was is Porsche race-car driver? I fell in love with you, not Bob, not Lando, you. So whether that is Bob, who kindly helped a crying lady on the street who just had her passport stolen from her, or Lando a cool and amazing race-car driver. Whoever you are is the person I love" you grin and he pulls you into a hug.
"So you want to join me for the last few races? Or you want to finish this world trip of yours?" he asks.
"Well, looking at your calendar, I can actually meet you at the rest of the races, While travelling. I'll continue to do Europe until you have the Netherlands, and ill go back to Italy, just for you. I'll miss Azerbaijan and Singapore because I did that, but I'll knock out some of South America, I'll meet you for Austin, then we can do Mexico and Brazil together, then we can do Vegas together! And by that point I can call it done with my trip!" you exclaim and he looks like he considers it for a second.
He's shocked, he cant remember the last time a girlfriend tried so hard to link up their schedules like this, and proved that they'd be able to work despite some potential scheduling issues.
"I love you. I fucking love you" he grins pulling you back down onto the sofa kissing all over your face making you giggle.
A/N: I've been doing a lot of Lando recently, I don't know if you can tell but I love writing about him, he's my fav to write about right now.

The Best News of Last Week - March 13, 2023
🐝 - Did you hear about the honeybee vaccine? It's creating quite the buzz! But seriously, it's a major breakthrough in the fight against American foulbrood and could save billions of bees.
1. Transgender health care is now protected in Minnesota
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed an executive order protecting and supporting access to gender-affirming health care for LGBTQ people in the state, amidst Republican-backed efforts across the country to limit transgender health care. The order upholds the essential values of One Minnesota where all people, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community, are safe, celebrated, and able to live lives full of dignity and joy.
Numerous medical organizations have said that access to gender-affirming care is essential to the health and wellness of gender diverse people, while states like Tennessee, Arizona, Utah, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, South Dakota, and Florida have passed policies or laws restricting transgender health care.
2. First vaccine for honeybees could save billions
The US government has approved the world's first honeybee vaccine to fight against American foulbrood, a bacterial disease that destroys bee colonies vital for crop pollination.
Developed by biotech company Dalan Animal Health, the vaccine integrates some of the foulbrood bacteria into royal jelly, which is then fed to the queen by the worker bees, resulting in the growing bee larvae developing immunity to foulbrood. The vaccine aims to limit the damage caused by the infectious disease, for which there is currently no cure, and promote the development of vaccines for other diseases affecting bees.
3. Teens rescued after days stranded in California snowstorm: "We were already convinced we were going to die"
The recent snowstorms in California have resulted in dangerous conditions for hikers and residents in mountain communities. Two teenage hikers were rescued by the San Bernardino County sheriff's department after getting lost in the mountains for 10 days.
The boys were well-prepared for the hike but were not prepared for the massive amounts of snow that followed. They were lucky to survive, suffering from hypothermia and having to huddle together for three nights to stay warm.
Yosemite National Park has had to be closed indefinitely due to the excessive snowfall.
4. La Niña, which worsens Atlantic hurricanes and Western droughts, is gone
The La Nina weather phenomenon, which increases Atlantic hurricane activity and worsens western drought, has ended after three years, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. That's usually good news for the United States and other parts of the world, including drought-stricken northeast Africa, scientists said.
The globe is now in what's considered a "neutral" condition.
5. Where there's gender equality, people tend to live longer
Both women and men are likely to live longer when a country makes strides towards gender equality, according to a new global study that authors believe to be the first of its kind.
The study was published in the journal PLOS Global Public Health this week. It adds to a growing body of research showing that advances in women's rights benefit everyone. "Globally, greater gender equality is associated with longer [life expectancy] for both women and men and a widening of the gender gap in [life expectancy]," they conclude.
6. New data shows 1 in 7 cars sold globally is an EV, and combustion engine car sales have decreased by 25% since 2017
Electric vehicles are the key technology to decarbonise road transport, a sector that accounts for 16% of global emissions. Compared with 2020, sales nearly doubled to 6.6 million (a sales share of nearly 9%), bringing the total number of electric cars on the road to 16.5 million.
Sales were highest in China, where they tripled relative to 2020 to 3.3 million after several years of relative stagnation, and in Europe, where they increased by two-thirds year-on-year to 2.3 million. Together, China and Europe accounted for more than 85% of global electric car sales in 2021

It's infinite free flower season ヽ(♡‿♡)ノ
This sexy evil lady is called Montbretia and she is an invasive species* in Ireland and Britain**!
She's a horticultural hybrid species (Montbretia - Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora) developed in South Africa. She escaped from gardens she was planted in and can now be seen in hedgerows and streams and woodlands and even on coastal dunes!
This is BAD NEWS because she outcompetes more ecologically integrated species (I don't like the native/nonnative dichotomy), including endangered plants found in woodland underflora.
But the GOOD NEWS is INFINITE FREE FLOWER SEASON!
You can do your part to limit the damage caused by Montbretia by pulling it up by the root any time you see it! To help even more you can dig up AND DESTROY*** the corms (which are like bulbs) and report sightings to invasives.ie or biodiversityireland.ie (ROI) or irecord.org.uk/app (UK).
It will take you Many Years to get all the corms in your local montbretia patch, so in the mean time - infinite free flowers! All autumn ヽ(♡‿♡)ノ
More info: https://invasivespeciesireland.com/species-accounts/established/terrestrial/montbretia
-
*I HATE HATE HATE the language we use for 'invasive' and 'non-native' species, in these times of increasing fascism. This is a plant which is not a good neighbour. It doesn't provide food to many animals in the local ecosystem and it is overly competitive, crowding out other plants trying to live in the same place. They can also make river banks collapse with the weight of their corms (mar dhea), which can damage fragile aquatic ecosystems. It is moderately damaging to the ecosystems of Britain and ireland. For other sources of infinite free flowers, check out: rhododendron, Himalayan balsam.
**Other places too probably but i'm staying in my lane. Pls do make up for the gaps in my knowledge if its infinite free flower season in your neck of the woods too!
*** this is so crucial. You have to destroy the corms. Don't put them in your compost heap or landfill bin. Crush them. Let the pieces dry out completely. Throw them in a fire if you can. Montbretia is VERY GOOD AT SPREADING, that's the main problem lol
#I have a vase full of these in every room of my house atm lol#They are very pretty and orange and work well as autumn decor#carbon neutral ecologically beneficial infinite free flowers!#Me Fein#Plants#Irish shit#ecology#Montbretia#invasive plants#I am having great fun with my footnotes and kaomoji thank u for asking

So I know you don’t trust CDAN but I feel like he has a legitimate source from Montecito.
So I remember reading a post of his a few months ago about the alliterate one (Meghan) telling the ginger-haired one (Harry) that the marriage is over if he accepts an invitation to stay with the Duke of Westminster. At the time I remember thinking “hmmm is Harry traveling to the UK”? And then a few weeks later it came out that Harry attended Lord Fellowes’ memorial in the UK. He didn’t stay with the Duke of Westminster obviously. He stayed at Althorp. But CDAN alluding to a plan of Harry’s to stay at UK is interesting.
And then for several months now, CDAN has been posting blinds about the ginger-haired one getting close to a surfing instructor. And now we have confirmation that Harry has taken an interest to surfing.
Harry has been interested in surfing long before he moved to the US.
Surfing in Australia in 2003 during his gap year:
Body-surfing in Cornwall in 2012:
Supporting a surfing charity in South Africa in 2015:
Of course CDAN has a source in Montecito. It’s Meghan.

AFRICAN LEADERS, STOP SELLING OUR COUNTRIES
In this video, 23-year-old rapper and Pan-Africanist based in Kenya @realsensicalsense ranted about many African leaders upholding the neo-colonial system.
For centuries, the world’s industrial powers have treated Africa as an open market for cheap raw materials to fuel their economies. At the end of the European slave trade and throughout the colonial period, Europeans forced Africans into a global economy that disadvantaged Africa and other colonised regions of the world. Today, most African countries are nominally free. Yet, African states still find themselves beholden to unfair trade deals, widening the gap between the industrialised Global North and the extractivist economies of the Global South. It’s a race to the bottom at the expense of our lands and people.
Every country is looking out for its interests. In some cases, two countries can strike a mutually beneficial deal. New collaborations between Russia and African countries like Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger are allowing these Sahelian states to move away from France’s stranglehold and develop new industries.
BROTHER SPEAKING FACTS ..these so-called leaders are nothing but corrupt mother fvckers

Helping Adolescents with Depression
Helping Adolescents with depression involves just that. Help. Yet, many parents leave these progressive issues way too long before seeking a once and for all approach to managing depression. Depression is highly treatable!
Helping Adolescents with depression involves just that. Help. Yet, many parents leave these progressive issues way too long before seeking a once and for all approach to managing depression. Depression is highly treatable and most parents and teens don’t know this. No one teaches them about how to recover from depression , never mind what depression arises for and how we can manage it and then…

wotseries did a little article about the south africa filming which apparently officially started today, and there's nothing crazy in it but i'm so desperate for crumbs that i'm bringing the little tidbits i found interesting to you all!
they speculate filming will last about 2 months
they speculate some tanchico scenes may be filmed here as well as aiel waste scenes
crew members spotted include people associated with all of the season's directors (block 1&4, block 2, and block 3). which might mean the waste scenes (and/or possibly tanchico scenes) start as early as 3x01/2 and/or span as late as 3x07/8 (the director for blocks 1&4 is the same, so we can't say for sure whether they're there for both blocks or just one of them). wotseries does specifically say they believe they may be filming for material as early as 3x02.
they are confident that rosamund pike, daniel henney, madeleine madden, ayoola smart, and josha stradowski are involved in the filming. (actually, they said they were confident about the first 4 and assumed josha was also there since rand yknow has to be there, but i'm 99.9999% sure josha mentioned being part of this filming in the december interviews, so i'm confident.) so it does sound like exclusively the waste crew right now, and thus i'll take the tanchico speculation with a grain of salt, although of course it could be that there are tanchico scenes that are scheduled for later in the shoot and those actors may arrive at a later date.
now for some of my mini musings! first, season filming length. this would put s3 filming at april 2023-april 2024. s2 filmed july 2021-may 2022 and started airing in september 2023. the s2 film end date-air date gap would put s3 at august 2025, while the s1-s2 air gap (1 year 10 months) would put s3 at july 2025. could be we're looking at summer 2025, or could be that amazon wants to alternate septembers with ROP and will put WOT s3 at september 2025, or could be they want and are able to start getting seasons out a bit more quickly and are hoping for spring 2025. who knows! i'll be very curious to learn ROP s2's release date and potentially get a sense whether alternating septembers is their plan or whether they're aiming to start having a fantasy season out every 8-10 months instead of every 12.
second, The Mat Question, given the recent rumor that mat will be part of the tanchico plotline. donal is starring in hadestown which is happening right now, so he's obviously not involved in this filming - at least yet. possibilities are:
a) most/all of the filming is for the waste, and mat is not part of that plotline at all
b) mat is part of the waste plotline in some capacity, but all his scenes were already filmed in the studio and donal doesn't need to participate in the south africa shoot
c) donal does need to participate in a portion of the south africa shoot and an understudy will take over his part in hadestown for a bit while he's doing that (i know nothing about how long-running theater productions work, so i have no idea whether or not it's likely that he would take a theater job or be hired for a theater job if he already knew he wouldn't be available for a chunk of its run)
i don't really have any guesses at all here. mat is destined to be the most mysterious and hard-to-predict character of every season!
third, i'm thrilled to have unofficial confirmation that madeleine is part of this filming and i hope to soon see an end to the "egwene will go back to the tower instead of accompanying rand & co straight to the waste from falme" nonsense haha
fourth, the potential timeframe of the waste plotline. that it spans episodes 3-6 is totally unsurprising, so it's the bookend blocks i'm most curious about. arriving at the waste in 3x02 makes sense to me - this would give them a whole episode with the gang together in falme, and then everyone can split up to head off on their trips. there's also a bit of a possibility that the suspected 3x02 material could be just the end of the episode, and rand's group spends most of the episode in a different place such as caemlyn (a theory i love very much and will hold onto as long as i possibly can!). i thiiiiiink previous leaks placed rand's rhuidean visions in block 2, and in the books the rhuidean trip is just about the first thing they do upon arriving in the waste, so it could be that their arrival is sorta like the 3x02 cliffhanger and then we dive into rhuidean and such in 3x03.
then for block 4. again, we don't know for sure whether this director is here for anything to do with block 4 or only for block 1, so this might be a moot point. but the potential block 4 i can think of for rand's plotline is either a) they're still in the waste all the way through 3x08 as in TSR, or b) they leave the waste sometime in 3x07/8 and go to either cairhien or tear for a big battle. option B would probably still involve some waste scenes in this block even if they ultimately end in a different location, so i don't even know why i'm bringing up anything to do with block 4 because we're no closer to guessing the location of rand's crew by the end of 3x08 than we were before!
#me: there's nothing new here [somehow manages to ramble for paragraphs]#i'm just too excited! wotshow speculation is my favorite pastime!!#wot#wot on prime#the wheel of time#wot show spoilers#wot book spoilers

Articles that have helped me further understand the Palestinian genocide:
Somehow, I missed that Israel killed hundreds of people in the West Bank just 11 days before the October 7 attacks.
I also failed to look into Nakbar. 750 000 people were cleansed in 1948-49 to make way for Israel.
and a quote from Abu Ali I liked:
https://www.jstor.org/stable/48664822
Above, there is an essay analysing James Baldwin's changing stance on the Israeli occupation. It was mind-blowing and is a must read (as well as the other article by The Maple).
the following are quotes and ideas that stuck with me:
- pg 4 - "...there is a tremendous gap between a Jew from Russia or France or England or Australia and a Jew but lately arrived from the desert."
- pg13-14 "he saw Israel as a Western invention and a symbol of the West, a symbol of the colonial and imperial status quo. Palestine thus became its antithesis, representing the colonised peoples of the Third World."
- "And, of course, any real commitment to Black freedom in this country would have the effect of reordering all our priorities, and altering all our commitments, so that, for horrendous example, we would be support Black freedom fighters in South Africa and Angola, and would not be allied with Portugal, would be closer to Cuba than we are to Spain, would be supporting the Arab nations instead of Israel would never have felt compelled to follow the French into South-east Asia
- pg 15 "but the state of Israel was not created for the salvation of the Jews; it was created for the salvation of Western interests. this is what is becoming clear ... The Palestinians have been paying for the British colonial policy of "Divide and Rule" and for Europe's guilty Christian conscience for more than thirty years"
it's late. I'll fix the messiness of this post tmr lmao
edit: I said 750 000 Palestinians were killed. this is false. they were ethnically cleansed

Pretoria serves as a “crucial base of operations” for Islamic terror groups, according to a soon-to-be released report by the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy.
The report’s publication comes in the wake of the International Court of Justice’s latest ruling against Israel’s military offensive in Rafah, in a case brought before the court by South Africa.
On Friday, the court ruled by 13 to 2 that the Jewish state must “immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”
“The ICJ’s ruling is a stark reminder that South Africa has become a hub for extremist activities across the African continent,” said ISGAP Executive Director Charles Asher Small.
“South Africa embraces antisemitic ideologies, supports state-sponsored terror, maintains close ties with and acts on behalf of Iran, Qatar and Hamas,” he added.
According to ISGAP’s report, Pretoria serves as a “crucial base of operations for Islamic terror groups, facilitating connections with networks throughout Africa.”
The report states that “despite long-standing U.S. sanctions, international Islamist entities with terror links continue to operate freely within South Africa, evading global scrutiny.”
It argues that the “Financial Action Task Force (FATF) [which leads global action to tackle money laundering, terrorist and proliferation financing] noted South Africa’s failure to effectively identify, investigate, or prosecute terrorist financiers, revealing critical gaps in its anti-terrorism financing measures.”
Addressing Pretoria’s governing party, the report claims that “the African National Congress (ANC) maintains close relationships with Qatar, Iran and terror groups like Hamas.”
The report also highlights “the possibility that Iran funded South Africa’s ANC party in exchange for favorable outcomes in ICJ cases, especially since the ANC’s sudden financial stabilization in early January 2024, after years teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, remains shrouded in mystery and devoid of any detailed explanation.”
According to Small, “South Africa has become a leading voice for terror. By bringing this case against Israel and in favor of Hamas, South Africa further positions itself as a bad actor on the global stage.”
The time has come for the international community “to recognize and address South Africa’s alarming connections with terror-supporting states and entities,” he added.
ISGAP is an international organization that works on mapping, decoding and combatting contemporary antisemitism.
Earlier this year, Small told JNS that the South African government was acting in complete opposition with South Africa’s freedom charter and Nelson Mandela’s vision of democracy by embracing the Iranian revolutionary regime, Qatar and Hamas.
“For the ANC and the South African government of 2024, which inherited the work of Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo and Walter Sisulu among others who sacrificed their lives for social democracy, to be in bed with Hamas, the Iranian revolutionary regime and the Qatari Muslim Brotherhood regime is an affront to the South African people,” he said.
“For Pretoria’s ruling party, the corrupt party of 2024, to be in bed with the disciples of true apartheid, true Nazism and true racism, to invite Hamas after they committed a racist massacre based on the ideology of Nazism and Fascism of Europe, is an affront to what the ANC is supposed to represent,” he added.

One of the most well-established patterns in measuring public opinion is that every generation tends to move as one in terms of its politics and general ideology. Its members share the same formative experiences, reach life’s big milestones at the same time and intermingle in the same spaces. So how should we make sense of reports that Gen Z is hyper-progressive on certain issues, but surprisingly conservative on others?
The answer, in the words of Alice Evans, a visiting fellow at Stanford University and one of the leading researchers on the topic, is that today’s under-thirties are undergoing a great gender divergence, with young women in the former camp and young men the latter. Gen Z is two generations, not one.
In countries on every continent, an ideological gap has opened up between young men and women. Tens of millions of people who occupy the same cities, workplaces, classrooms and even homes no longer see eye-to-eye.
In the US, Gallup data shows that after decades where the sexes were each spread roughly equally across liberal and conservative world views, women aged 18 to 30 are now 30 percentage points more liberal than their male contemporaries.
Seven years on from the initial #MeToo explosion, the gender divergence in attitudes has become self-sustaining. Survey data show that in many countries the ideological differences now extend beyond this issue. The clear progressive-vs-conservative divide on sexual harassment appears to have caused — or at least is part of — a broader realignment of young men and women into conservative and liberal camps respectively on other issues.
In the US, UK and Germany, young women now take far more liberal positions on immigration and racial justice than young men, while older age groups remain evenly matched. The trend in most countries has been one of women shifting left while men stand still, but there are signs that young men are actively moving to the right in Germany, where today’s under-30s are more opposed to immigration than their elders, and have shifted towards the far-right AfD in recent years.
Too often young people’s views are overlooked owing to their low rates of political participation, but this shift could leave ripples for generations to come, impacting far more than vote counts.

I wish you'd write a fic where Sam Stewart unexpectedly inherits a small fortune from one of her vicar uncles. It's post-war and there is no Adam Wainwright to contend with, just Andrew Foyle and Sam, the improbable heiress...
(Okay, this bit is really a prologue to the main idea you asked for, but it currently won't grow any bigger, and no -one is saying what they mean, so here you go. Sorry about which uncle I chose..)
Summer 1945
It's a shape on the bench, slightly cowed and slumped in spite of the bright weather. Then the glint of the sunlight on distinctly coppery hair. Sam? She's not the only red-head in Hastings but…
He keeps walking, drawing closer to the figure. And yes, he knows that profile, now staring out to sea, now turning her gaze down to something on her lap.
“Sam?”
He calls her name, enough to be heard but not, he hopes, to attract other attention from the people on the green.
She jerks, glances around rapidly, and spots him. There are tears streaked on her face, an utter bewilderment as well.
He closes the gap, perches on the other end of the bench to her. She can get up and leave if she wants, he's not close enough to stop her, not that he would. The black band of mourning is stark on her coat arm. He sits quiet for a few steady heartbeats
“Dad told me about your Uncle Aubrey… I'm sorry, he said you two were close.” another time I would have taken her hand, but you lost that years ago fool.
“Thank you.” She says, a soft choked rasp. Her gloved hands clutch at something, folding it and pressing it into one hand, pinching it tight. “I'm all at sixes and sevens, to be honest Andrew.” She stares out at the sea, We, my Family all get through the war alive somehow, despite the fact its’ mostly boys and North Africa and the South coast , and then this…” She shakes her head hard once, falls silent,
the breeze blustering and a gull or two yarping somewhere on the updrafts.
Then Sam spits out,“It’s not fair, it’s not sodding Fair.”
Sam swearing, or nearly swearing at least. “No…” he says softly, "it's not. It’s not fair at all.” It feels like far too little in answer. He tries not to look at her, hears more than sees her swallow back more emotions. Just when everything’s trying to settle down into this new normal and everyone involved in the European war is trying to find their feet again, the world goes and rips the rug out from under her again. He glances up at the sky, Not cricket, oh Dominus, not cricket at all - not to Sam, nor to Reverend Stewart’s congregation; many coming home wanting familiarity and having to deal with a new man and the inevitable New Broom he brings.
Sam sighs beside him, and when he looks she’s wearing a rueful apologetic expression
“Sorry I’m being a wet blanket.”
“You’re not, not by miles - I know, for a fact, that I’ve been worse to you.” I got sour, not just rightfully sad. God - I can’t imagine what it would be like to suddenly lose Uncle Charles about now, just as the War’s over.
There’s a rustle, her pressing whatever is in her hand tighter still. I’m not going to ask, it’s her business, certainly not mine.
Sam keeps speaking softly, “ I thought the funeral would help, saying goodbye, acknowledging that he’s in the care of God taking comfort from that, and how many people came, how many people he meant something to.” She shrugs. “It did, a bit, I suppose. It was part of it, a structure, a marker if not an ending. And then this came from Uncle Aubrey’s solicitor.” She holds out her hand, a folded paper within it, raising her eyes, weeping again, to meet his, “Apart from some charitable bequests, anything of his personal effects anyone in the family wants, a few special gifts of objects, he’s left everything to me. Not split it between all of us cousins, not just a portion of a family division. All of it.”
“Ah.” ‘How much is it?’ floats across his mind, No you idiot, that’s crass, and you sound like the worst sort of fortune hunter. He yanks his gaze away from Sam, from the papers, scanning over the grass and the steep bank of Hastings. “Including the recipe for that Greengage Wine Dad now keeps in the medicine box, labeled ‘Crisis Emergency disinfectant'?”
Behind him Sam gives a squeaky chuckle, “He left that out, unless it’s tucked into one of his books somewhere.”
“You know Dad would always be happy to be a listening, responsible, grown-up ear, if you need it. Certainly better than me.” I can barely organise myself, let’s be honest, much less any kind of inheritance. Dad would tell you how hopeless I was with money at Oxford. And it must be money, at least part of it, I think, the way she phrased that ‘All’
Sam humms in her throat, a thinking noise, “I’ll remember that.” Another sigh, “I knew he was my favourite Uncle, and I knew he had a soft spot for me, and he didn’t have children of his own to leave it too, but…” she trails off into silence again.
“Mmm.” He hasn’t got a clue what to say, if there’s even anything appropriate to say to that. Sam’s in some sort of shock, maybe, but it doesn’t seem to be the shock that a cup of tea - or whiskey - would solve. She shouldn’t be confiding all this to me, either, I certainly don’t deserve it.
He almost feels Sam give herself a shake and come back together, briskly changing the subject, “How was it in London, did you find anything?”
London, “It’s a mess Sam, it really is, don’t think I’d realised how hard it had been hit, in my passing visits through” Broken houses, half walls, rows with piles of rubble in the middle where a building had once been. “And no, they didn’t have a position they thought I fitted in the bank.” He sets his hands on his legs “So I’m back here for the time being.”
“Do you think you’ll go again?”
“Honestly - no, I don’t think so.” The ruins, the destruction, the open marks of the war “I don’t think it’s for me, the city. I’ll have a good look around this neck of the woods first, something’s bound to turn up.” He can’t help a rueful twitch of his head. “Well, I hope it does.”
“Seek and ye shall find.” Sam quotes, then her voice suddenly cracks, and he springs to his feet as she rises abruptly, “Thank you, Andrew,” she speaks almost too quickly, I’ll remember what you said, about your father for a listening ear.” She nods, tries for a weak smile, and turns away sharply, walking at pace which isn’t quite a run off West Hill and into the town.
He can only watch her go, Oh Sam - I wish I could help. I wish i hadn’t muffed it all so badly back then, that I was still close enough with you to let me help, somehow.
